Located in the southern region of the country, Arequipa is considered the jewel of Peru'. It's beautiful deep valley, snow-capped mountains and ancient ruins are the pride of the Arequipenos and very popular attractions for tourists.
The White City, as Arequipa is known, was built with light colored volcanic ash called sillar. Unfortunately, the city is highly prone to earthquakes; nevertheless, a few of original building still stand.
Location: about 1000 kilometers from Lima at the foot of the western Andes southern Peru’, counting more than one million inhabitants. Its altitude is approx 2,350 meters above sea level, with an average climate during the day of 17C and 12C once the sun sets. Skies are sunny about 340 days a year.
Reaching Arequipa from Lima via land through the Pan-American high way with main bus company such Cruz del Sur. Or via air with daily flights from Lima, Cusco and Juliaca.
